As part of the Australian Heritage Festival, join us as we walk around the streets to engage with select historical buildings in Brunswick.
Whether you are a flâneuse, a flâneur, a wandersmänner, wanderer, or just a writer wanting to join us for a morning of walking and location inspired creative writing, as we walk around the streets to engage with select buildings and sites in Brunswick, noting the changes along the way.
Be creatively inspired by the architecture and stories of buildings such as the inspiring community arts precinct Balam Balam Place that still houses parts of the Trinity Catholic Regional College, the heritage-listed Brunswick Baths, and the Brunswick Mechanics Institute. Or discover the sites of places that can be re-imagined such as the old Empire Theatre. Perhaps you’ll be prompted to begin a poetic re-telling of the blue, amber and gold lights that shone at the ball to open the Brunswick Town Hall, or let the stories of the beer that flowed for prospectors during the Gold Rush at the Retreat Hotel inspire an upcoming historical novel. Let’s find out!
Bring along your writing journal, phone, notepad or ipad, to jot notes and observations, as we stop to write. Please wear comfy walking shoes, and depending on the weather, a hat, sunnies, raincoat, hoodie, umbrella and a water bottle or snack.
Date: Sunday 26 April 2026
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Price: $40 per person
Address: 15 Phoenix St, Brunswick VIC 3056
